Butterfly Pavilion opened in Westminster, Colorado in 1995 and has been a hit in the area and around the whole metro ever since. It has the claim of being the first stand -alone not for profit insect zoo in the whole United States. Fun for the whole family, you can find many different species of butterflies and other insects. Get up close and personal with these fascinating creatures in a controlled environment. You will love the main attraction there which is an indoor rainforest exhibit filled with 1200 free-flying butterflies.

Situated on 11 acres, the 30,000 sq foot facility contains 5 exhibit areas to teach visitors about these winged beauties and other invertebrates.

As mentioned, it is a non-profit facility that gets most of its funding from addmission tickets, corporate sponsorships, and the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District.

Along with the indoor tropical conservatory, there are many exhibits that don't just showcase butterflies, but also other invertabrates of many different kinds, outdoor gardens, educational programs for kids of all ages (even those in their late years,:) and events and activites held there throughout the year to promote unique experiences for the whole family.

This popular destination just northwest of Denver is situated on Standley Lake, which is a large reservoir that is the primary water supply for the cities of Westminster, Thornton, and Northglenn in the the norther suburbs of Denver, Colorado. As mentioned, there are many activities and fun things to do at the lake and the first attraction is the lake itself, you can boat, fish, or paddleboard and spend a day on the water.

Along with the fun on the water, there is also fun to be had out of the water. There are many trails that wind around the lake to hike and walk along to enjoy the beautiful Colorado sunshine and air. Also perfect for walking, jogging, biking or just observing all the wildlife that surrouns the lake. Check out the anture center while you are there as well as it is situated in the park and offers educational programs, exhibits, and info about the local flowers, and wildlife. Fishing is allowed in certain designated areas, and while you can't camp in the park, there are many campgrounds around the area to stay at if you want to make it a staycation while visiting the park during the day.

Along with the usual entertainment options all year round, there is also winter fun to be had with an outdoor skating rink.
